Commonwealth of Massachusetts. In the House of Representatives, July 11, 1783 : Whereas it is necessary that the legislature should be furnished with an account of all bounties paid to soldiers during the war ... therefore, resolved, that the selectmen of the several towns ... collect the receipts, or other the best vouchers they can, of all bounties paid by their respective towns.
